“Trio”: Three Upcoming NorCal Events We Think You’ll Enjoy Each Week

Violinist Mayuko Kamio brings three performances to the area through Chamber Music San Francisco this week. Joined by pianist Noreen Polera, she’ll play a recital that includes sonatas by Brahms and Mozart, the Bach Partita No. 3 in E Major, as well as favorite pieces by Elgar, Dvorak, Kreisler, Rachmaninoff and more. She won the 2007 International Tchaikovsky Competition, and was the youngest artist to win the Menuhin Violin Competition in 1998. She plays the 1735 “Sennhauser” Guarneri del Gesu violin. On Saturday afternoon at 2:30, she’ll play in Walnut Creek at the Lesher Center for the Arts; then Sunday afternoon at 3 at San Francisco at Herbst Theatre; and Monday evening at 7:30 she’ll be in Palo Alto at the Oshman Family JCC.

  • Songs for Solace and Restoration

The chamber choral ensemble Sacred and Profane presents two concerts this weekend in a program called “Songs for Solace and Restoration.” Among the composers are Ysäye Barnwell (from Sweet Honey in the Rock,) Eric Whitacre, Zanaida Stewart Robles, Shawn Kirchner, Dale Trumbore, Morten Lauridsen, and Dave Malloy (with selections from his choral musical Octet.) “Experience the healing power of music, featuring works that explore both the depth of grief and the relief that follows.” The concerts are at Saturday night at 7 in Berkeley at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, and Sunday afternoon at 4 at San Francisco’s St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

  • FREE: Second Sunday Recital Series

The “Second Sunday Recital Series” ends its season this Sunday afternoon at 4 at Mission Dolores Basilica, with their free Annual Mothers’ Day Concert. Cellist Emil Miland (who’s played with the San Francisco Opera Orchestra since 1988) will be joined by Jerome Lenk (on organ and piano) and guest cellist Vicki Erlich for Vivaldi’s Concerto in G minor for Two Cellos. The program also includes works by Bay Area composer Candace Forest, Rudolph Friml, Fanny Mendelssohn, and Eduard Poldini. The program will also be livestreamed.
