Celebrating 75 Years of Classical KDFC!

Pop CultureCommunity

Only one Bay Area station has stayed committed to celebrating classical music for 75 years. In 1948, Bill Crocker founded the station and was its first general manager. Sales was handled by Ed Davis who later became the station’s long-running GM. Engineering was handled by Herbert Florance. The names of these three gentlemen, Davis, Florance, Crocker, created the acronym for the call letters KDFC. From our humble beginnings when FM was considered “new-fangled,” to today where you can carry KDFC in your pocket on your smart phone, we couldn’t have done it without you. For the last 13 years, it’s community support that has made it possible. Thank you for supporting KDFC and celebrating 75 years of non-stop classical music for all.

All of us at KDFC are honored that San Francisco Mayor Breed has declared September 1st as “KDFC Day“! Cheers to another 75 years!

“Classical music is forever, but not many classical radio stations are. Thank you Bay Area for keeping it going.”

-Classical California KDFC President Bill Lueth
