Join KDFC as we celebrate Independence Day with A Classic 4th: a celebration of America’s Great Orchestras and Soloists as well as works from our Greatest Composers.
The festivities start on the San Francisco Symphony Broadcast, Tuesday at 8pm, as Michael Tilson Thomas leads the orchestra in works by Ives, Gershwin, and more! On Wednesday, KDFC Tonight showcases American Symphonies and Concertos to get you warmed up for Independence Day. Then on the Fourth, tune in for an American themed day with works from George Gershwin, Morten Lauridsen, Aaron Copland, Arthur Foote, and John Williams. Plus, American musical souvenirs from Dvorak, and an interesting take on Yankee Doodle. KDFC Tonight closes out the day with annual all-American Fourth of July program.
The celebration continues on the Fifth as William Grant Still and Leonard Bernstein take center stage and George Gershwin takes a getaway to Cuba while Andrew York plays in the sun!
Tune into Modern Times with Alan Chapman, Saturday 10pm-Midnight, with an all-American program for Fourth of July weekend.
On The Sacred Concert, Sunday morning 7am-9am, Jeffrey Thomas will bring you American Traditionals and Spirituals plus music by William Billings, Aaron Copland, Charles Ives, San Francisco composer David Conte, Randall Thompson, Samuel Barber, Morten Lauridsen, and Eric Whitaker. The celebration wraps up on The Opera Hour, Sunday at 8pm, as Opera Sings Broadway. Your favorites singers take on the great songs from the musical theatre world. A great summer night of singing.
