NorCal Sundays

We have a new time slot to show off Northern California’s classical music scene! NorCal Sunday Night is the place to find NorCal’s best and most interesting classical concert broadcasts, including broadcasts of concerts by the San Francisco Symphony. Tune in each Sunday at 7pm for incredible performances from all across the Bay Area recorded live in concert.

During the month of April, we'll feature in this time slot a series of special broadcasts by Lara Downes called Classical Americana, exploring the roots of the American classical sound.

Our next set of San Francisco Symphony broadcasts will begin on May 26. And if you want to see what the Symphony has scheduled, you can find out more about their season here.

Please note: the San Francisco Symphony broadcasts have moved from Tuesdays to their new home on NorCal Sunday Night. You’ll still hear the full season of new San Francisco Symphony concerts, in addition to performances from other groups across the Bay.

Upcoming broadcasts

April 28, 2024: Classical Americana with Lara Downes

Episode 7: We Shall Overcome

We're fighting for freedom, for peace, and equality. And just like the song says: “Deep in my heart, I do believe that we shall overcome, someday.” The American Dream means different things to different people, but at its heart is the pursuit of promise. This week on Classical Americana, join Lara Downes in the church pew and the picket line with music by Margaret Bonds, Aaron Copland, Nina Simone, and other American icons.

Episode 8: On the Road

By trail and by rail, we’re on the road in search of new vistas and adventures. On this episode of Classical Americana, William Grant Still, Jennifer Higdon, Elizabeth Cotten, and Moondog will take turns driving along Route 66. We’ll make some stops along the scenic route, drinking in the grandeur and majesty of the Grand Canyon and the Tetons. As Jack Kerouac put it: “Nothing behind me, everything ahead of me, as is ever so on the road.”
