Notes from the Fires: Juhi Bansal Part 2

This time on Notes from the Fires, host John Rabe is back in Azusa, on Juhi Bansal’s patio. Juhi is a composer, conductor, and teacher, and she and her husband lost their rental home in the Eaton fire.

At the end of the episode Juhi will tell you which Classical California radio host was her student many years ago. (Listen to the audio to find out.) But before the big reveal, John and Juhi talk about how and why she composes music.

To wrap up today’s episode, we honor the ordinary people that ran into harm’s way during the fires … and those who are now helping rebuild the Palisades and Altadena. Here’s the San Francisco Symphony under Michael Tilson Thomas with Aaron Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man.

Notes from the Fires: Tesserae

Perhaps no musicians we’ve heard from in Notes from the Fires so far have lost so much … yet retained so much optimism. Alex Opsahl and Ian Pritchard, founders of the Baroque ensemble Tesserae, were in Europe with their two young boys on January 7.
