Notes from the Fires: Isaac Stern and Me

Today on Notes from the Fires on Classical California, host John Rabe goes to a coffeeshop in Westwood to talk with one of the many members of the Palisades Symphony Orchestra who lost their home in the fires. (Listen here for John’s conversation with the group’s leaders.)

John’s guest is the PSO’s first violinist and because of her intense job in civil service, she’d like to remain anonymous, but she tells John some great stories: about playing a Beethoven trio on the radio with her mother and sister when she was a kid, playing for her mom in her final years, and meeting her violin hero, Isaac Stern.

To end today’s piece, we’ll listen to the prelude from Johann Sebastian Bach’s Violin Partita #3, played by violinist Hilary Hahn.
